Health and Safety Advisor Job in Dunoon
Shearwater Marine Services is seeking an experienced, highly motivated Health and Safety (H&S) Advisor to join our team. Reporting to the QHSE Manager, our H&S Advisor will be responsible for helping to ensure a compliant and effective Health and Safety Management System within Shearwater Marine Services Ltd, The Professional Diving Academy, and other subsidiary companies. You will proactively support the site management teams by providing leadership, demonstrating, and promoting responsible attitudes towards H&S, implementing best practices with regards to H&S standards, and contributing towards the delivery of the overall business H&S strategy.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the HSE Manager and team by assisting with the continued development, maintenance, monitoring, and reviewing of our Safety Management arrangements.
• Assisting with the development and implementation of H&S policies and procedures
• Provide internal training and coaching to operational teams on H&S subject matters such as CDM, risk assessment, incident investigation, and contractor management
• Support Integrated Management System audits and operational teams with any external audits
• Perform frequent site safety walks and formalized inspections
• Participate in HSE audits and assessments (internal and external)
• Carrying out incident/accident investigations and compiling reports with findings and recommended corrective/preventive actions
• Providing support, advice, and recommendations to Operations on all matters relating to health and safety, with a focus on continuous improvement
• Assisting with the development of risk assessments, construction phase plans, safe systems of work, and other risk management documentation
• Support with the development and delivery of proactive H&S initiatives
• Compiling reports on H&S matters such as accident investigations, safety inspections, and audits.
• To advise on the implications of current and emerging health and safety legislation, including evaluating options, making recommendations, and generating action plans to ensure compliance across the company
• Any other miscellaneous duties as requested by the company
Required Skills
• Formal Health and Safety qualification – NEBOSH General Certificate minimum.
• Experience in an H&S advisory or compliance-focused role, ideally within a construction, manufacturing,g or marine environment
• Demonstrable knowledge and experience with ISO 45001 (occupational health and safety) management system requirements
• Experience developing and implementing H&S policies and procedures
• Experience in carrying out H&S inspections and audits
• Experience in developing and/or delivering H&S training and carrying out inductions
• Strong knowledge of H&S regulations and standards. Ability to interpret regulations and technical guidance.
• Report writing and research skills
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Computer literate, proficient in the use of Microsoft Office suite
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A full UK driving license is required, due to travel requirements
