Senior Safety Manager Job in Canada – Votorantim Cimentos

The Senior Safety Manager will lead VCNA’s Safety Specialists from each business line, by developing and carrying out procedures that effectively report, investigate, and control accident and health exposures in the company and minimize exposure to violations of regulatory or corporate procedures. The incumbent is responsible for providing guidance, awareness, and proactive leadership and solutions to ensure safe and reliable operations while acting as a change leader, educator, advocate, consultant, and mentor for the safety culture of the company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead a team of eight (8) Safety Specialists representing Cement, Ready Mix and Aggregate business lines.
Supports internal customers by serving as a subject matter expert in assigned areas by interpreting regulations, providing information to address a customer need and provide guidance in the development of programs and policy.
Works with the senior management team for each business line to ensure safety strategy complies with both internal policies and procedures and external regulatory requirements.
Will act as the champion of health and safety within the organization to support operations through building a culture of personal accountability.
Act as the liaison with the global safety committee and ensure compliance and execution of global safety initiatives.
Monitor adherence to safety program policies and procedures in the plant and reports discrepancies to plant management.
Provides leadership in ISO, responsible for maintaining the safety ISO certification.
Lead and track audits, policies, procedures, and metrics to ensure compliance with internal and external requirements.
Ensure effective and timely communication of incidents to the business, safety team and executive group if any impact on budgetary items are anticipated.
Attends industry specific meetings, when necessary, to improve knowledge and understanding of issues, concerns, trends, and enforcement actions arising in various geographic areas.
Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from an accredited College or University and/or six to ten years related experience and/or training/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience influencing all levels of management to enact change.
Experience supporting Cement, Ready Mix and Aggregate operations is an asset.
Experience managing and mentoring a team of safety personnel is an asset.
Strong organizational and time management skills.
Diplomacy interacting with both union and non-union groups.
Ability to build support for programs both within the safety team and with key stakeholders.
Must have strong communication skills and ability to relate to all levels of the organization.
Experience improving and managing process improvements.
Problem solving and decision making skills.
Knowledge of both Canadian and U.S. safety rules and procedures is required.
Must be able to travel across Ontario and the US when required.
Experience with SharePoint and Microsoft Office (Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint) is required.
