To support our growth strategy and strengthen enterprise-wide HSE governance, we are seeking an experienced Senior HSE Manager to provide strategic leadership, operational oversight, and continuous improvement across all health, safety, environmental, and sustainability functions.
This role is suited for a senior HSE professional with strong leadership credentials, deep knowledge of international management systems, and the ability to influence at executive and operational levels.
Role Purpose
The Senior HSE Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing, and leading the organization’s Health, Safety, Environment, and Sustainability framework in line with Nigerian regulatory requirements and internationally recognized standards.
The role ensures that the company operates safely, responsibly, and sustainably while embedding a proactive HSE culture across all departments and operational locations. The successful candidate will act as a strategic advisor to executive leadership, ensuring HSE risks are identified, controlled, monitored, and continuously improved.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Governance

Develop and implement enterprise-wide HSE strategies aligned with corporate objectives and operational realities.

Provide professional HSE advisory support to the COO, CEO, and executive leadership team.

Establish HSE performance objectives, KPIs, and governance frameworks to support business sustainability.

Drive a strong safety culture through leadership engagement, accountability, and visible commitment.
Management Systems and Compliance

Implement, maintain, and continually improve the Occupational Health & Safety Management System (ISO 45001:2018).

Implement and manage the Environmental Management System (ISO 14001:2015) across all operations.

Ensure compliance with all applicable Nigerian HSE laws, regulations, and industry standards.

Prepare the organization for internal and external audits, certifications, and regulatory inspections.
Risk Management and Incident Control

Lead enterprise-wide hazard identification, risk assessments, and risk control programs.

Oversee accident, incident, near-miss, and unsafe condition reporting processes.

Lead high-level incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective/preventive action implementation.

Track and close out all audit findings, corrective actions, and management review outputs.
Monitoring, Reporting and Performance Improvement

Compile and analyze HSE performance statistics, dashboards, and trend analysis reports.

Prepare detailed HSE management review reports for executive leadership.

Identify performance gaps and implement continuous improvement initiatives.

Benchmark organizational HSE performance against industry best practices.
Operational and Departmental Coordination

Work closely with department heads to ensure compliance with corporate and contractual HSE requirements.

Integrate HSE requirements into operational planning, procurement, logistics, and project execution.

Review procurement documents, technical specifications, and contractor submissions for HSE compliance.

Support contractor prequalification, onboarding, and performance monitoring processes.
Fleet Safety and Logistics Oversight

Support and enhance fleet safety programs, including driver monitoring, journey management, and vehicle safety standards.

Coordinate driver education, defensive driving training, and behavior-based safety initiatives.

Monitor fleet-related incidents and implement corrective actions to reduce road traffic risks.
Training, Communication, and Culture
-
Develop and implement HSE training plans for employees, supervisors, and managers.
-
Ensure appropriate safety signage, notices, and HSE communication materials are deployed across all sites.

Promote workforce engagement through toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and awareness programs.

Mentor and develop HSE team members to build internal capacity and leadership succession.
Environmental and Sustainability Management

Promote environmental protection, waste management, energy efficiency, and pollution prevention initiatives.

Lead sustainability programs aligned with environmental responsibility and customer expectations.
-
Support customer-focused HSE and sustainability solutions where required.

Monitor environmental performance indicators and ensure continuous environmental improvement.
Required Experience and Qualifications
Educational Requirements
-
BSc or HND in Science, Engineering, Environmental Management, or a related discipline.

Postgraduate qualifications in HSE, Environmental Management, or Sustainability are an advantage.
Professional Experience
-
Minimum of 10 years’ progressive experience in Health, Safety, and Environment management.

At least 6 years in a senior or leadership HSE role, managing teams and enterprise-level HSE systems.

Demonstrated experience implementing and maintaining ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management systems.

Proven experience working in complex operational environments such as logistics, construction, manufacturing, warehousing, or multi-site operations.
Professional Certifications (Advantageous)

NEBOSH International Diploma or General Certificate

Lead Auditor certifications (ISO 45001 / ISO 14001)

Registered safety professional certifications (local or international)
