Our client, a large oil and gas company, is seeking a Senior Field Environmental Coordinator on a Fly-In-Fly-Out basis (14 days on/14 days off) from Calgary, AB.
The Senior Field Environmental Coordinator position will be based at the SAGD Facility. This position will play a key role in the overall coordination and implementation of environmental programs, environmental compliance and proactive environmental initiatives that support oil sand’s operation activities. This position will also be responsible for the environmental component of the HSE Management System. The Senior Field Environmental Coordinator position will be an integral member of the Environmental Operations team reporting to the Manager, Environment.
Follows the development of environmental issues and concerns at the international, national, and local level in order to be at the frontline for responding to such concerns relevant to oil and gas operation. Gathers data, study and develop an analysis of opportunities which come up from environmental issues and to communicate these finding to management. Prepares operational permit applications, plans, & environmental analyses for small and large projects for all assets. Identifies environmental risks, issues, and mitigation strategies and communicate within HSE, and other internal business partners. Provides oversight and lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the Environmental Management Information System (EMIS). Typically 5 – 7 years of experience. Experienced level. Requires a strong understanding of discipline. Able to apply knowledge and experience to complex problems and develop recommendations. Makes decisions within broad parameters. Acts as an informal resource for others with less experience.
The Senior Field Environmental Coordinator is responsible for the following activities within their assigned area of responsibility:
Ensure compliance with all company and environmental regulatory requirements for operations;
Development, implementation and management of environmental procedures and plans;
Coordination of environmental management best practices across oil sand operations and activities;
Coordination and direction of contract service providers conducting environmental monitoring or assessments to ensure safe, quality and cost-effective delivery of services;
Management of scope of work and budgets associated with environmental programs;
Support to operations on environmental issues and programs, including waste management, erosion control, vegetation management, water withdrawal or discharge, regulatory inspections, monitoring, spill clean-up, emergency response etc.;
Assisting operations in reporting and managing environmental incidents such as spills and releases;
Reporting regulatory non-compliance and follow up with corrective actions plan implementation;
Incident investigation, corrective action support and verification of environmental and regulatory contraventions;
Work closely with the Regulatory and Environment and Sustainable Development teams to ensure consistent program implementation, regulatory interaction and planning;
Developing programs designed to improve environmental performance of Oil Sand’s Operations;
Liaise with key regulatory agencies on environmental programs, approvals and permit requirements;
Management and analysis of environmental data to identify trends and issues to help implement enhancements to environmental programs in collaboration with the Calgary based Environmental Operation team members
Support execution of permits and licenses for construction.
University Degree in environmental science or related discipline
Strong technical knowledge and experience in environmental operations support
Strong familiarity with environmental requirements of oil industry
5 to 10 years direct environmental operations experience
An understanding of oil sands or conventional oil and gas production operations
Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
Technical Expertise – Knowledgeable and experience with the fundamentals of environmental management and compliance and environmental incident response
Must have a demonstrated ability to accomplish results under pressure while remaining flexible to rapidly changing conditions and priorities
Must be proficient in written and verbal communication.
