This position provides leadership, advocacy, and issue management for Chemical Product Safety, Health, and Environmental (SHE) issues, regulatory development, and compliance related activities in China. This role works closely with Regional and Global Marketing, Public Affairs, Technology, and Sales to enhance business growth through regulatory advocacy and by assuring that our current and future products meet regional chemical and end use regulatory requirements.  Responsibilities will involve advocacy or compliance and management of a range of complex regulatory and product stewardship issues.  This position supports a global business with external and internal interfaces in the region and globally.

Job Role Responsibilities

Provides leadership, advocacy, and regulatory compliance support covering the following PS&RA activities:

  • Evaluate and interpret new and emerging regulations to determine the need for advocacy
  • Develop advocacy positions for EM products consistent with Corporate objectives
  • Provide surveillance, analysis, and guidance on future regulatory trends for consideration in business strategy development
  • Represent EM in externally-facing activities, including trade association participation
  • Lead development of EM regulatory advocacy strategies for EMCC products
  • Assesses regulatory environment’s impacts on business
  • Support EM compliance with regional regulations
  • Evaluate impact of regulatory changes on the business
  • Enable our business to be competitive and maintain license to operate via advocacy and assuring compliance with regional regulations
  • Interface with other Functions/Businesses to ensure effective & efficient information exchange of relevant regulations, laws, policies
  • Drive collaboration and synergy capture in PS&RA functions across all businesses



Skills / Knowledge / Competencies

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a similar role; some advocacy and regulatory experience is preferred
  • Must be fluent in Chinese and English, other languages a plus
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in a technical field (Chemistry/Engineering); advanced degree preferred
  • Strong communication and influencing skills; ability to influence without authority
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills with ability to interface with many organizations and cultures (internal and external to EM)
  • Ability to work and manage complex regulatory and product stewardship issues
  • Demonstrate initiative; Self-motivated and ability to work with minimum supervision
  • Possess integrity and leadership
  • Possess strong safety leadership and demonstrated commitment to safety
  • Experience working with people from different cultural backgrounds preferred
  • Ability to work with various levels of the organization
  • Occasional travel may be required
  • Occasional teleconferences outside of normal working hours required
