The EHS Team at Ware are responsible for providing the site with a framework to effectively manage Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) risks. This incorporates a wide range of issues including: assessment of EHS risk; formulation of policies and procedures to comply with legal & company standards; setting of EHS objectives and targets; performance monitoring; emergency planning; incident and accident investigation and crisis management.
Reporting directly to the Site’s EHS Director, As the site Occupational Hygiene Manager you will take responsibility for maintaining workplace health and safety by identifying, evaluating, and controlling exposure to chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological hazards. You will ensure that any risk and exposure are controlled in line with GSK & legal standards for all existing and new operations. You will also be instrumental in initiating improvement activities where appropriate. The role has a wide range of key responsibilities, including driving continued improvement of exposure control for chemical and physical agents in existing and new operations. You will ensure that the site exposure monitoring programme is managed and executed in compliance with legal and GSK standards and expectations. You will develop, implement and improve good EHS practice ensuring that GSK policies and regulatory standards are met. You will also advise management of occupational hygiene and broader EHS matters and support or initiate improvement activities where appropriate. You will also be involved with training, coaching and educating staff in related EHS competencies.
Although the role has no direct reports, you will manage specialist contractors providing occupational hygiene services to the site (eg; the provision of respirator fit testing and analytical services). Please note that GSKs current preferred analyst is based in the USA, and so you must be able to effectively manage activities across these time and distance boundaries.
PLEASE NOTE: We are particularly interested in hearing from experienced professionals with BOHS Occupational Hygiene Modules in 4 or more individual disciplines, and working towards the BOHS Certificate of Operational Competence in Occupational Hygiene.
This role would suit a self-motivated individual who has strong experience of working in an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) role. You will also be resilient and calm under pressure. Strong people skills and a proven ability to influence people to achieve objectives and drive performance are considered fundamental to the role. You will also have a strong continuous improvement mindset.
