Position Overview

The HSE Engineer – Food Manufacturing will be responsible for supporting the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE Management Systems, ensuring compliance with local and international regulations, and promoting a proactive safety culture across operations.

This role involves working closely with cross-functional teams, participating in multiple projects, and contributing to productivity, innovation, and business continuity initiatives while maintaining the highest HSE standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. HSE Management Systems and Compliance

  • Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of HSE Management Systems in line with company policies, legal requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory standards, including OSHA, EPA, DNREC, and local Egyptian HSE regulations applicable to food manufacturing operations.

  • Conduct regular HSE inspections, audits, and assessments to identify gaps and recommend corrective and preventive actions.

  • Maintain accurate HSE documentation, records, and reports in line with internal and external requirements.

2. Risk Assessment and Hazard Control

  • Identify workplace hazards associated with food manufacturing processes, machinery, utilities, chemicals, and manual handling activities.

  • Conduct Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Risk Assessments, and Environmental Impact Assessments where required.

  • Recommend practical and cost-effective control measures to eliminate or reduce risks.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of implemented controls and ensure continuous improvement.

3. Incident Management and Investigation

  • Support investigations into accidents, near misses, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions.

  • Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective and preventive action plans.

  • Track incident trends and provide data-driven recommendations to management.

  • Ensure timely reporting of incidents in accordance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.

4. Training and Safety Awareness

  • Assist in planning and delivering HSE training programs for employees, contractors, and visitors.

  • Promote safety awareness initiatives, toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and behavior-based safety programs.

  • Support onboarding safety induction programs for new employees and contractors.

  • Encourage active employee participation in HSE programs and continuous improvement initiatives.

5. Project and Innovation Support

  • Participate and support HSE aspects of multiple projects, innovation initiatives, productivity improvements, and business continuity programs across the MENAP region.

  • Proactively contribute creative solutions to complex HSE challenges within manufacturing operations.

  • Ensure HSE requirements are integrated into project planning, execution, and commissioning stages.

  • Provide timely HSE input to support operational efficiency without compromising safety standards.

6. Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Production, Engineering, Quality, Maintenance, HR, and Supply Chain teams to embed HSE into daily operations.

  • Participate in multifunctional teams to deliver agreed tasks and objectives within set timelines.

  • Provide regular progress updates against deliverables and maintain clear communication with internal stakeholders.

7. Environmental and Sustainability Responsibilities

  • Support environmental management initiatives related to waste management, water usage, emissions, and energy efficiency.

  • Monitor environmental performance indicators and recommend improvement opportunities.

  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and reporting obligations.

  • Promote sustainable practices aligned with the company’s environmental goals.

Education and Certifications

Required / Preferred Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or Engineering

  • Preference will be given to candidates with a background in:

    • Mechanical Engineering

    • Electrical Engineering

    • Environmental Science

    • Occupational Health & Safety

    • Industrial or Manufacturing-related disciplines

Professional Certifications (Preferred)

  • OSHA Certification

  • EPA Certification

  • DNREC-related training or compliance knowledge

  • Any additional HSE, environmental, or manufacturing safety certifications will be considered an advantage

Experience Requirements

  • 1–3 years of relevant HSE experience, preferably within:

    • Food manufacturing

    • FMCG

    • Manufacturing or operations environments

  • Practical understanding of manufacturing processes, machinery safety, and known industry hazards.

  • Experience supporting HSE audits, inspections, and compliance programs.

  • Familiarity with operational risk management in a production environment.

Technical and Professional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing and operations safety principles

  • Understanding of HSE regulatory frameworks and compliance requirements

  • Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and propose improvement actions

  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset

  • Excellent communication and reporting skills

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multifunctional team

  • Good organizational and time-management skills
