Health and safety Advisor Job in Canada with Dufferin County

The Human Resources division is currently recruiting for a
HEALTH AND SAFETY ADVISOR
The County of Dufferin sits on the fringe of the Greater Toronto Area, about 100 kilometres northwest of Toronto. It is
largely a rural county with three urban settlement areas. The region is well known for its rivers, rolling hills and outdoor recreation opportunities. The UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, the Niagara Escarpment and the world famous Bruce Trail, run through Dufferin offering spectacular vistas and hiking opportunities. Home to over 61,000 residents the area boasts fabulous restaurants, shopping and amenities.
Reporting to the Director of Human Resources (HR), the Health and Safety Advisor is responsible for the development and implementation of an Occupational Health and Safety program for the County of Dufferin and participating member municipalities, and also supports wellness initiatives from an HR perspective.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Plans, implements and monitors the Health and Safety program to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and
Acts as a resource to the County and participating member municipalities regarding the Occupational Health &
Safety Act and associated relevant regulations and standards.
Develops, delivers and tracks employee training related to safety in the workplace.
Conducts research to maintain currency with industry best-practice regarding mitigation of hazards in the
workplace, and assists Managers in increasing worker awareness through development of tools and preparation of
department-specific Health and Safety Programs.
Coordinates policy development and amendment based on industry standards and best practices.
Assists with incident investigations and provides recommendations to prevent future incidents.
Acts as a liaison with the Ministry of Labour and others for matters such as work refusals, incident investigations,
and Ministry field visits.
Promotes wellness in the workplace, including conducting basic office ergonomic assessments
Reviews incident reports, identifies and analyzes trends, and prepares WSIB Form 7s as required
Assists with disability management and in the development of employee return-to-work plans
To meet the requirements of this position, the successful candidate will have the following:
University degree or college diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or a closely related field
Preference given to a Certified Registered Safety Professional (CRSP)
3-5 years of Health and Safety work experience, including experience in workplace inspections, WHMIS, incident
investigation, WSIB, workplace accommodations and return-to-work programs, ergonomic assessments, disability
claims management and wellness programs
Experience leading training requiring excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills
Strong analytical research and reporting skills
Ability to write precise policies and procedures, advice and/or instructions
Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office and electronic document management systems
Experience with e-learning development is an asset
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation with the ability to travel to various locations within
The annual salary range for this position is $68,468 to $80,098 (Grade 8 on the 2019 Salary Grid).
