Danger of food and nutrition illiteracy

Food and nutrition always goes together. Food is any substance consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. It is usually of plant or animal origin, and contains essential nutrients, such as carbohydrates, fats, proteins, vitamins, or minerals. The substance is ingested by an organism and assimilated by the organism’s cells to provide energy, maintain life, or stimulate growth.
Good nutrition can help prevent disease and promote health. There are six categories of nutrients that the body needs to acquire from food: protein, carbohydrates, fat, fibers, vitamins and minerals, and water.
Not all food items are nutritional, some are junk food which could result to health complications.
Food and nutrition illiteracy is the a problem for some people while others neglect the importance of food and nutrition.
Food and nutrition illiteracy is when an individual lacks the knowledge of good nutritional standard. They may be eating every day, but their quality of diet do not match what the body needs for effective well-being.
Most of us eat randomly without any form of control, this unsafe act could lead to the development of metabolic disorders like diabetes, obesity, also lead to development of high blood pressure, heart disease, bone related issues, etc.
It’s the Yuletide season again, a lot of people have started indulging in indiscriminate consumption of junk food (Food with little to know nutritional value but with high calorie).
It is advised that this unsafe act of indiscriminate consumption of food items be curtailed to enhance good and healthy well-being.

Put some level of controls to what you eat, try to avoid food items with preservatives, eat regular meals and try to avoid in-between meals, eat fresh food, vegetables and fruits should not be ignored.
Whatever you consume, do not forget to augment the nutritional value of the food with fruits and vegetables to balance up for the classes of nutrients lacking in your food.
