Bleeding results from open wound and must be stopped to avoid complications. If bleeding is not stopped early, the victim may get into a state of unconsciousness and death.
Everyone in his/her lifetime will at one point or the other have an open wound cause by accident. Everyone should know how to stop bleeding from open wound.
I will briefly explain ways to stop bleeding.
3 Ways to stop bleeding
- Apply direct pressure:
Hold pressure directly on the wound. Use your thumb to apply pressure at the bleeding point or any other suitable material. Never use a dirty materials or dirty hand to apply pressure on an open wound.
- Elevate the wound location above the heart level
Raising the wound location above the heart level help slow blood flow, thereby reducing bleeding.
- Use Pressure Points
Pressure points are points on the surface of the body sensitive to pressure. Pressure points should be between the wound and the heart. To stop bleeding, identify the pressure point in between the wound and the heart and apply pressure to it. Example of pressure point is – Webbing of the Hand.
