SPIE Receives Additional Step 4 Safety Culture Ladder Certification in Germany

SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in energy and communications, has been awarded the Step 4 Safety Culture Ladder (SCL) certificate for its Substations business unit, which is part of the High Voltage operational division in Germany. This makes it the first European company to receive the second-highest certification step in the sector of switchgear engineering. The award honors the outstanding work safety culture and has been valid for three years. Performance is reassessed through recurring audits. The Transmission Lines business unit in the High Voltage operational division had already received the Step 4 SCL certificate in 2023.

The Safety Culture Ladder is an internationally recognized framework designed to enhance workplace safety culture through a behavior-based approach. It comprises a total of five steps. It measures and evaluates workplace safety awareness at every level of the organization. The audits consist of interviews and observations of actual employee behavior. The evaluation also considers collaboration with partner companies and their safety culture.

That both the Transmission Lines and now the Substations business units have achieved the second-highest SCL certification step is a testament to the importance of workplace safety in our operational division. We will continue to pursue this path with determination,” says Burkhard Sager, Head of the High Voltage operational division at SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria.

The progress made by the High Voltage operational division sets an example for others. It demonstrates that workplace health and safety efforts succeed when employees at all levels actively contribute to establishing a sustainable safety culture in their daily work through mindful and safety-conscious behavior,” emphasizes Markus Holzke, Managing Director of SPIE Germany Switzerland Austria.
