Promoting safety and ensuring compliance in the transportation and handling of dangerous goods is an essential goal of this challenging opportunity now available in the Safety and Compliance Services Branch. In this multifaceted role, you will be responsible for conducting road and rail facility and on-highway inspections along with complex investigations to ensure that dangerous goods shipments within the Province are handled, offered for transport and transported in compliance with existing Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act and Regulations (Federal), Dangerous Goods Transportation and Handling Act and Regulations (Provincial) and Railway (Alberta) Act and Regulations (Provincial). Reporting to the Chief Inspector, you will also be required to be on-call on a rotational basis, attend dangerous goods incidents providing technical assistance as required.
Your excellent inspection, investigative and enforcement skills will allow you to identify areas of non-compliance and recommend appropriate action. Using your knowledge of the transportation industry, regulatory law and applying your well-developed interpersonal skills, you will act as a resource person and technical expert to industry, the general public, the R.C.M.P, Municipal Police and Fire Department Services, as well as other government departments.
University degree in Physical Sciences or Law Enforcement plus a minimum 4 years related experience conducting inspections, investigations and enforcement in the area of regulatory law is required. Working experience with CSA packaging standards is an asset. Working experience with Federal and Provincial Dangerous Goods and Railway legislation and is an asset. Working experience with Federal and Provincial statues including but not limited to the criminal code is an asset.
Equivalency considered: Related Diploma plus 5 years of related experience.
