Job Description

Overview / Responsibilities

Wood Process & Energy is currently seeking a Senior Construction HSSE Advisor. The position will be responsible for assisting with the daily administration and implementation of the HSSE management system. Function as an HSSE support at our project located in St. James, LA. Fully qualified to work independently while satisfying accountability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Take personal ownership and responsibility for protecting people from harm, and for developing strategies that drive performance and support continuous improvement
  • Assist implementing HSE policies and procedures with site management and (sub) contractor personnel
  • Monitor compliance to HSE standards; include monitoring client HSE requirements; conduct scheduled field visits and inspections; recommend and follow through on corrective actions
  • Review statistical data, inspection reports and compliance survey results; track and trend results; make recommendations and recognize achievements
  • Prepare required reports to the HSE Department including HSE recordkeeping documentation such as OSHA logs, training records, PTSA’s and HEART observations
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents for root cause identification, and recommended preventive action; support supervisors to prepare injury, incident and loss control reports
  • Support the procurement needs, and the training requirements for using personal protective equipment; evaluate effectiveness and recommend improvements
  • Support new hire orientation process and other HSE training needs
  • Attend Safety toolbox talks to support implementation
  • Monitor health and environmental hazards including industrial hygiene issues; ensure proper management and control
  • Manage first aid supplies and medical emergency services performed on/off site
  • Support recognition program development and administration
  • Participate in professional HSE conferences and organizations; pursue continuing education opportunities
  • Support Realizing Zero – Zero Harm Culture implementation
  • Support implementing Foster Wheeler HSE Management System; including pre-task HSE planning (PTSA) and incident investigations:
  • Assist in Project start-up and planning efforts
  • Hazard recognition and control
  • Training and education assistance
  • Auditing and inspecting support
  • PRS and incident reporting and recordkeeping assistance
  • First Aid and emergency services support
  • Subcontractor monitoring
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management

Skills / Qualifications

  • Associate degree or Bachelor degree in safety or other relevant field of study preferred
  • 5+ years of industry and HSSE experience
  • Must be capable of leading a small team
  • Organization and planning

  • Statistical and analytical skills
  • Computer based systems and software competency
  • HSE policies, procedures and management system
  • Emergency response including 1st aid / CPR
  • PPE requirements

Physical Demands

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and sit. Occasionally the employee will be required to walk for 2-4 hours at a time and may be required to stand for extended periods of time.
