Job Role Summary

Under direction of the SSHE Section Supervisor, perform duties in security, safety and health programs focused on workplace safety enhancement.  Duties include safety program development, creating and modifying safety standards and work practices, safety training, event investigation, security interface and safety meeting facilitation.  Will also ensure compliance to company and industry safety standards and participate in company and industry safety networks.

Job Role Responsibilities

  • Subject Matter Expert for work permits, confined space, and gas testing systems
  • Translate safety standard and work practices changes to line management
  • Site contact for all site safety standards and work procedures
  • Contact for OSHA, PSM and RMP regulations
  • Key site interface with Industrial Hygiene and Security
  • Communicate safety concerns to SSHE department, line management, and leadership team
  • Identify non-conformances with key safety systems and recommend corrective actions
  • Participate on incident investigations and regulatory audits as Subject Matter Expert
  • Participate on internal compliance audits
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and permit compliance audits
  • Develop and update safety training modules as required
  • Provide safety training as required
  • Create new standards or modify existing safety standards
  • Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on safety audits and programs
  • Intervene with the work group to correct unsafe actions or conditions
  • Provide feedback to assist personnel in proper hazard assessment and resolution of unsafe conditions/acts associated with work activities

Job Role Requirements

  • Candidates should be an  Associate Safety Professional (ASP), preferably a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience as a safety professional in a manufacturing facility
  • Knowledge of OSHA safe work standards
  • Knowledge of industry safety practices and guidelines (ANSI, API, AFPM, etc.)
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Effective field safety observation, assessment skills
  • Effective meeting facilitation, organizational & problem solving, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage competing priorities
  • Ability to effectively work with spreadsheets and create graphs/charts to facilitate data analysis
  • Proficiency with standard software packages and possess computer database management skills
  • Experience in formal incident investigations and case management

Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Candidates should have a background in chemical manufacturing, industrial technology, project construction, or a related field
  • A degree in Industrial Hygiene, Safety, Construction Management, Industrial Technology, or related field with relevant work experience
  • A Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Experience in process safety as well as personnel safety
  • Risk assessment experience in personnel and process safety
