The Canberra Light Rail Project is a public private partnership between the ACT Government and the Canberra Metro Consortium. Construction has already commenced with public services expected to begin in late 2018.
To deliver the operations and maintenance obligations of the Project, an incorporated joint venture between UGL and JH has been formed, Canberra Metro Operations Pty Ltd (CMO).
We are currently seeking a Safety Manager to join the CMO team and be involved in establishing the HSE framework, develop procedures and implement programs to provide a safe and healthy working environment in preparation for the commencement of the Light Rail.
Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Support the development of HSE strategies, processes, systems and procedures to support the work health and safety strategy
  • Assist in the implementation of Safety Management Systems for the Canberra Metro project
  • Provide support in the preparation and delivery of HSQE training materials
  • Set up HSR committees and consultation programs
  • Develop compliance & reporting on HSE, Quality and Environmental performance, compliance and non-conformance
  • Support leadership team in operational readiness activities related to HSEQ
  • Provide support in the delivery of identified elements of the Rail Safety Accreditation for Canberra Metro
  • Assist in the development of the safety induction

  • Have relevant tertiary studies and have sound experience in O&M, particularly in a Rail or transport environment.
  • Knowledge of system, procedure and high-risk activity auditing compliance and reporting procedures and processes
  • Your experience will include significant HSE leadership coupled with deep functional expertise, operational experience and a demonstrated ability to develop a strong HSE culture.
  • Have excellent communication skills including strong negotiation and influencing skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders
  • Are customer focused, team oriented, accountable and results driven.
