Overview / Responsibilities

Amec Foster Wheeler Environment & Infrastructure’s St. John’s, NL office currently has an opportunity available for a Safety Health and Environment Lead Canada for its Muskrat Falls, Laboratory Services Project.Reporting to the Muskrat Falls Laboratory Manager, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to provide Safety, Health and Environment support to Amec Foster Wheeler employees and employees of our subcontractor in accordance with the Site HSE Program. The position will require the successful candidate to work a rotational shift in a camp type environment with frequent travel required between projects. Key Responsibilities

Sky Scrapper
  • Possess thorough knowledge of provincial and federal OH&S regulations as related to construction
  • Coordinate/conduct site safety orientation for new employees and maintain safety record-keeping system
  • Act as central point of contact for Amec Foster Wheeler employees, supervisors and Site HSE
  • Verify that work instructions (safe work procedures, job hazard analysis) are current and updated as the scope changes
  • Conduct daily inspections of the work areas (lab and field) and meet with the Supervision to discuss any potential problems
  • Periodically audit quality of daily tailgate meetings, hazard assessment forms and vehicle inspections for accuracy and completeness
  • Assist in the investigation of incidents for root cause identification and recommend corrective actions and establish lessons learned
  • Help prepare site specific material for safety meetings and tool box talks
  • Coordinate safety meetings, assist Joint Health & Safety Committee with the committee’s functions
  • Monitor compliance to Site Environmental Protection requirements
  • Ensure adequate supply of safety equipment, such as protective equipment, fire extinguishers, respirators, etc.
  • Monitor and report on the overall effectiveness of the safety program
  • Perform other duties as required

Skills / Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years Occupational Health and Safety experience. Experience working in heavy construction settings will be an asset
  • Appropriate training with an accredited qualification in the field of Health, Safety and Environment
  • CRSP, CSP designation is preferred
  • Training and/or experience with Construction Materials testing would be an asset
  • Strong working knowledge of construction safety and current Provincial/Federal OHS requirements
  • Must be able to work and deliver in a fast paced team oriented environment
  • Must be a strong communicator, able to effectively run meetings and communicate clearly and accountably with principal contractor, client, staff and co-workers
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience with the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Strong organization/time management skills
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently as well as a part of a team
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environment
  • Good attention to detail, with the ability to recognize discrepancies
