The assigned Project & Technology (PT) Wells Safety & Environment (SE) Supervisor is a member of the PT SE organization and report directly to the P&T Wells SE Team Lead. Working a 5/40 schedule and based in the primary asset office location, the Supervisor will support the P&T Wells Asset by executing the following roles and responsibilities:
HSSE Capability is recognized as a key area for improvement across Shell in Trinidad & Tobago. As assets move into mature operating modes, there is substantial need to support and build capability through onboarding, training, competence assurance and engagement. This position drives this improvement focus area and will be a key enabler of Goal Zero into the future.
The Shell Trinidad & Tobago or P&T HSSE Function comprises over hundreds of professionals spread across multiple offices and operational sites. As part of achieving Goal Zero, the HSSE function is in a transformational phase as it further develops as a credible and impactful partner with the business.
Set a clear leadership example and promote a high degree of health, safety & environmental awareness and good HS&E practices to achieve “Goal Zero” on the rig and the office.
Coach and mentor less experienced team members to deliver best-in-class performance in HSSE, cost, time and operational efficiency.
Drive and verify implementation of control framework requirements, learning from incidents, and good industry practice, as these relate to HSSE capability of the organization (competence, training, organizational design).
Assist (Audit, Train, Coach, & Mentor) on-site personnel to ensure IG Wells HSSE agenda focus areas are implemented and sustained on all sites within STTL. This includes:
Assess the embedding of the HSSE agenda focus areas against the IG Wells requirements; through rose plots and audits;
Develop systematic and practical action plans to close any gaps; Train, Mentor, Advise and Assist site personnel in the implementation of required action items;
Monthly communication to management of site-specific assist and assurance initiatives;
Actively participate in the assist and assurance global network.
Advise site managers and superintendents in the day-to-day safety matters including dissemination and implementation of the safety policies, rules and procedures within the scope of field operations; Assisting Site Managers to implement and embed HSSE programs on site.
Support contractor engagement through site visits and monthly service provider meetings.
Share and Develop learning incidents relevant for various upcoming operations. Regional sharing and communication on HSSE matters and safety incidents.
Provide input and suggestions on service contracts to enable improved HSSE performance.
Support contract holders in delivery on Joint Safety Improvement Plan (JSIP).
Maintain communication and lead by example in ensuring integration with site leadership team and contractors on site and other support departments. Ensure clear communication to the rig crew on well HSSE targets and drivers for HSSE success, at the same time keeping the crew motivated to deliver against those HSSE targets.
Maintain, develop and improve the HSSE network for sharing and communicating Wells HSE information.
Actively participate in HSSE promotional ideas and initiatives and assist in their coordination.
Support and drive the Wells HSSE programs on all Wells work sites
Coordinate audit assurance processes on site for Wells team.
Improvement Planning: Develop annual improvement plan content in relation to HSSE Capability across the business, including any relevant strategies, programs, actions and KPIs, that deliver capability to be Goal Zero.
Consider analysis data from safety incidents process and leverage knowledge of local and international good practices.
HSSE Learning Portfolio: Determine HSSE requirements for onboarding, training and competence of relevant staff and contractors across all assets, facilities, projects and activities. Consider regulatory and other applicable requirements, hazards and risks, and in liaison with relevant Technical Authorities, Global Discipline Heads, SMEs where relevant.
Industry standardization / Safer Together: Participate in development of industry HSSE competence frameworks (East and West), in partnership with Safer Together working group, key Contractors, and Industry Bodies as applicable. Implement agreed industry programs and update all above internal activities as appropriate.
Assurance and Management Review: Take part in internal audits and contractor audits, on request.
Analyze performance and prepare information for regular management reviews with Trinidad Wells Leadership Team (WLT).
Travel to assets once every 2-3 weeks to support operational sites.
Candidate will need to build and maintain effective relationships with Asset leaders and teams across the business, and influence for implementation of scope. Candidate will need to balance technical requirements with business needs considering risk and resource management. Dimensions include influence on training/development time of asset and functional staff and contractors.
This role has no direct Shell staff but will be required to coach and influence (without hierarchical power) staff at all levels. The role will be responsible for contractor staff working in SE roles at Wells operational sites.
Must have legal authorization to work in Trinidad & Tobago without sponsorship.
Degree or minimum of 5+ years of experience in the HSSE field with direct operational support for Drilling and Completions.
This role is suited to an individual within the Health, Safety and Environmental skill-pool with operational HSSE organization experience, or someone within the Operational HSSE skill-pool who has demonstrable track record with organizational design/competence.
Experience working with or within various models for HSSE Functions within Shell, and a solid understanding of the delivery scope of a HSSE Function.
Delivered Organizational Design and Effectiveness program(s) in a complex matrix organization with demonstrated improvement outcomes.
Experience in competence assessment, developing competence frameworks.
Leading continuous improvement and performance transition programs.
Technical Competencies (Round 1, Round 2 or Advanced Well Control Certs) in Wells Operations (preferred but optional).
