Job Description


Manager N+1 : Engineering Manager Major Projects Functional Team,
Functional Hierarchy : WHP Package Lead


  • Ensure that the assigned projects tasks are well managed as per the statement of requirement, specifications and contractual requirements,
  • Ensure that all the interfaces with the design team are correctly managed,
  • Ensure that the projects are executed in accordance with the organization’s safety regulations, with quality conformance and within schedule,
  • Deliver a high quality engineering dossier for detailed engineering phases,
  • Ensure efficient communication with all other engineering and functional team members,
  • Provide thorough and efficient engineering documentation review, comments and follow-up on due time,
  • Follow-up of internal technical reviews (Project reviews, etc.)

The job holder is in charge of all technical design aspects related to loss prevention safety engineering aspects of new well head platforms. The safety engineer is based in the Major Projects premises during the initial stages of the project with the potential to move to engineering contractor premises during studies development.
The Job holder belongs to the engineering team and reports directly to the Engineering Manager Major Projects and to the WHP package lead.


  • Promote & comply in all activities with applicable safety instructions and other HSE procedures,
  • Carry out work in compliance with values and policies, relevant laws and regulations, agreed priorities and objectives, standards and procedures and good industry practices,
  • Follow-up of engineering development activities progress related to safety engineering systems by the contractors, the LLI and packages vendors (as applicable) for the Major Projects. The scope of activities will both concern green field (new development) as well as brownfield activities (on existing platforms). The activities include the review and comment of engineering and vendor documentation to ensure compliance with design dossier, safety concept, SOR, specifications, Corporate standard and HSE regulation, international codes and classification society rules (when applicable),
  • Supervise the engineering contractors in charge of carrying out the detailed design engineering, including (but not limited to) HAZID, HAZOP, SIL determination, any safety studies, model layout development, safety engineering documentation development, etc.. in compliance with project specifications and procedures, specifications, discipline requirements and international codes, with respect of cost, schedule and required level of quality and safety applicable to the projects,
  • Supervise and promote cost-saving and weight saving solutions in the design, promote design alternatives to optimise schedule, ensure that the design is standardized across the various wellhead platforms,
  • Check the technical quality of the engineering documents prepared by the Contractor(s) and his subcontractor(s) & vendors, provide comments in due time and approve via EDMS (PRODOM) the documentation promptly, in accordance with contract procedures and requirements,
  • Check the incorporation of comments by the Contractor(s) and his subcontractors / vendors in subsequent submissions,
  • Review firefighting equipment and lifesaving appliance specifications, datasheets, technical bid evaluations, purchase order specifications and vendor documentations,
  • Review of the firewater systems design including PFD, PID, design of deluge system, calculation notes, hydraulic and transient analysis,
  • Review of passive fire protection specification (piping, structural, vessels),
  • Review of other safety engineering documentations which are related to safety of personals and facilities such like (but not limited to) safety concept, hazardous area classifications, process PID, ESD logic diagrams, fire and gas cause and effect diagrams, hazardous area classification layouts, blast study, etc.
  • Review of various safety-related studies which are performed by a third party / consultant to identify major hazards and to ensure that risk are managed to ALARP, such like HAZID, HAZOP, SIL determination, Fire Risk Analysis, Explosive Risk Analysis, Safety Critical Elements identification and performance standard, Escape evacuation Rescue analysis, Gas Dispersion and radiation analysis, etc…
  • Follow-up recommendations and actions from various safety studies, through Contractor tracking register.
  • Ensure close coordination with other disciplines on all engineering, constructability and operational matters during Feed & detailed design developments, typically 3D model development, safety layout reviews, etc…
  • Treat all information obtained during course of the work with confidentiality,
  • Keep a pro-active attitude in front of future interlocutors (Contractors, vendors, etc…),
  • Review and analyze the safety engineering design data of the existing facilities in view of the integration with the new wellhead platforms,
  • Assist in preparing the various detailed scope of work for loss prevention safety engineering discipline covering for FEED and EPC, all in line with Pre-FEED and Statement of Requirements,
  • Manage the technical interfaces with other disciplines for the preparation of loss prevention safety discipline scope of work,
  • Report discipline activities on a weekly basis to management,
  • Review and suggest to management possible design solutions and strategies related to brownfield tie-ins scope in relation with loss prevention safety engineering scope,
  • Identify potential deviations from the referential and report these to the Engineering Manager for final decision on whether or not to implement,
  • Participate in weekly and monthly meetings with Contractors, and in specific ad hoc meetings as required by management,
  • Provide technical answers to technical queries and provide support in deviations requests related to loss prevention safety engineering issues,
  • Request assistance from shareholder specialists (remote head office), when required,
  • Participate in the HAZID/ HAZOP/ SIL determination, Project Reviews sessions with, Contractors and vendors teams and provide technical answers and clarifications,
  • Participate in inspections at site/vendor premises, as required,
  • Review qualification procedures and follow any qualification tests,
  • Liaise with 3rd party to obtain the necessary approvals, licenses or consents where required,
  • Ensure detailed progress reporting to project management,
  • If applicable, animate a small loss prevention engineering team and mentor its junior members during the project development,
  • Assist project management team to reply to various correspondence by providing technical support,
  • Carry out any other duties or tasks that may be assigned by hierarchical superiors.


  • Qualification: Master degree in safety system engineering, preferably Loss Prevention,
  • Experience: 10 – 15 year experience in safety engineering field in Oil and Gas activities,
  • Offshore experience is preferred,
  • Good knowledge of industry codes, standards and legislations on SSHE aspect,
  • Available for world-wide missions,
  • Familiar with Total general specifications,
  • Language: fluent English,
  • Computer literate,
  • Strong leader ship skills and good communication skills,
  • Ability to work on projects in a complex and multicultural environment.
