This role reports directly to Manager – Safety, Health, Environment and Community (SHEC) and provides specialist safety and health management support to the Sepon operation by leading the daily activities of the safety and health team and supporting the Sepon SHEC Manager and site leadership team to achieve the businesses strategic SHEC objectives. As a Superintendent – Safety and Health you are required to manage and provide specialist coaching, mentoring and training to the Lao Safety, and Health staff. The responsibilities of Superintendent Safety and Health include:

  • Develop, implement and maintain Sepon’s Safety and Health Management System;
  • Lead the day to day activities of the Safety, Health and Medical functions at Sepon;
  • Provide specialist safety and risk management support to all departments of the Sepon operation;
  • Develop and coach the Sepon Safety Team to deliver the businesses SHEC objectives;
  • Identify, develop and implement site safety improvement programs;
  • Site lead for incident investigations;
  • Responsible for the collection, management and reporting of relevant safety information and data;
  • Custodian of HS related budget and cost for the implementation of Safety programs


To be successful in this position, you will have:


  • Tertiary qualifications in an Safety, Health and/or Environment related discipline
  • Industry-relevant tertiary qualifications in Safety and Emergency Response disciplines
  • Knowledge of global industry practice in SHEC management and Safety Management Systems
  • 10+ years industry experience including international mine site and processing operational experience
  • Competency of operational and enterprise risk management strategies
  • Ability to lead, coach and influence team members and operational stakeholders
  • Ability to lead incident investigation processes and design and implement effective safety improvement programs


This assignment is residentially based in the Lao capital city of Vientiane with 9 days on and 5 days off commute roster to Sepon site. The Lao nationals and regional expatriates are encouraged to apply for the role. Onsite accommodation facilities are provided, including a gym and sporting facilities. The remuneration on offer will be commensurate with your experience and the market rate.  Full relocation and repatriation assistance is also provided.
