Regional Health & Safety Advisor
(Based in Boisbriand, QC)
Manage, plan, coordinate and direct Health & Safety (H&S) activities at manufacturing, transport, distribution and field service sites to reduce risk of employee injury, community impact and property loss. Provide Point of Contact interface and services to Regional Business Unit GM and Management Team in relation to all aspects of H&S and Security.
Thorough working knowledge and understanding of H&S regulatory compliance requirements for Canadian locations. (Local, province/national).
Support field Operations and Business Unit leadership with development and implementation of sustainable management strategies to achieve Company H&S management system objectives.
Facilitate incident investigation and root cause analysis activities to continually reduce risk and improve Company performance.
Promote the use of Individual risk assessment methodologies to increase awareness of personal safety factors.
Mentor and coach BU leadership in the use of techniques and employee centered involvement initiatives that increase employee awareness of their role in ensuring a safe place of work.
Strong organizational skills, analytical and problem solving skills, communication and interpersonal skills. Must have demonstrated follow-up and closure skills.
Excellent leadership and managerial skills required including high energy and proactive forward thinking.
Responsible for implementation of corporate standards regarding H&S.
Provide leadership and direction to all echelons of employees to continue to shape a world class safety culture.
Ability to manage incidents and return to work program for area of responsibility.
Energetic, self-motivated individual that takes opportunities to learn what is not known, and become the expert.
Fast paced environments with multiple priority initiatives that are required to be managed and submitted as per fixed timelines.
Provide training to employees in use of HSE tools and Safe Days Process
Participate in Business Improvement Activities, Teambuilding Workshops and special working groups to continually improve performance.
Decision Making Authority:
Decision making authority will be related to information seeking, project planning, involving others and relationship building.
Learning the IPL HSE Management System and being able to communicate with, and motivate employees using the learned information.
Maintain balanced approach to work and personal commitments. This position required to travel at least 2 weeks in every four.
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Safety Management, Engineering, Science or related field is required. Advanced degree and/or professional certification desired. (CSP or CIH Preferred)
Preferred Disciplines: Occupational Safety and Health, Health and Safety Management or engineering, PSM.
Minimum 8 years H&S experience in a chemical manufacturing, processing or field service related industry involving chemical handling.
Commercial explosives and/or mining industry experience preferred.
Two or more years supervisory or management experience preferred.
Computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365 and Access.
Work Environment & Physical Conditions:
Ability to work with computer keyboard/screen on a daily basis.
Requires sitting, stooping, use of hands and fingers, ability to talk and hear.
Requires occasional walking of moderate distances at field locations.
May need to occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to wear a negative pressure respirator, safety glasses, shoes and hearing protection while visiting sites.
