Job Role Summary
Advise, develop, implement and execute strategies and programs to improve overall personnel safety performance at a large scale fully integrated refining and chemical plant operation in Beaumont, Texas.
The Safety Advisor will play a key role in injury and illness case management; regulatory interpretation and guidance; safety procedure development and updates; assessment of safety programs; safety compliance audits; development and execution of safety initiatives.
Job Role Responsibilities
- Case management of occupational injuries and illnesses
- Safety procedure development and updates
- Validating effectiveness of safety programs and addressing performance issues with appropriate line management
- Advising on and developing strategies to further improve safety
- Assisting in incident investigation process
- Directly support Loss Prevention System (LPS) execution
- Directly support OSHA VPP
- Participation in Best Practice Networks
- Provide OSHA regulatory guidance to the line organization
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety (desired), or Bachelor’s degree with relevant experience in Safety is a requirement. Graduate degree is a plus.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a petrochemical/refining manufacturing plant
- Experience with occupational injury and illness case management
- Experience with incident investigations and causal analysis
- Ability to manage new safety program development and implementation
- Ability to conduct regulatory and management system assessments
- Ability to develop and conduct effective safety training
- Ability to communicate well to different levels of the organization and regulatory entities
- Strong interpersonal and presentation skills
- Strong computer skills
- Strong technical writing skills
- Self-starter and highly motivated
- Strong attention to detail
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to facilitate, manage, and coordinate large groups
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Recognized as a Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
- Experience with managing the OSHA Voluntary Protection Program Process
- LPS (Loss Prevention System) background is highly desirable
