With over 2,500 fatalities in 2022, car crashes remain the most preventable cause of mortality for teenagers in the United States. This year’s National Teen Driver Safety Week is being observed from Sunday, October 20, to Saturday, October 26. To help stop this trend and keep young drivers safe on American roads, the National Safety Council DriveitHOME program, in collaboration with Honda, is offering resources to parents, caregivers, and other stakeholders.
These resources include videos and posters that cover important teen driver safety issues and provide advice on how parents and caregivers can get involved to protect their new drivers; talking points and copy to use in various items like newsletters; and guides on how to observe the observance. People of all ages are affected by crashes involving young drivers (15 to 20 years old), according to the most recent data available. More than 5,000 people lost their lives in collisions involving at least one young driver in 2022, making increased awareness and the availability of support more crucial than ever.
“No parent should ever lose their child, and no young person should ever die on our roads,” stated executive vice president of safety leadership and advocacy Mark Chung. Involving parents in their teen’s driving education is essential to ensuring they have the know-how to drive safely. NSC is pleased to provide parents and guardians with the resources they require to ensure their teenagers drive safely for the rest of their lives.
The National Safety Council is inviting all parents, guardians, driver education instructors, and organizations nationwide to learn more about how they can help give teen drivers the abilities, information, and support they need to deal with the difficulties of driving as National Teen Driver Safety Week draws near.
