Job Description

Within the R & D department of Stavanger, the VIE’s main task will be to work on the validation and limits of CFD codes KFX and FLACS through different conceptual or operational case studies. These commercial CFD codes are Norwegian and used in various studies for consequences assessment of oil and gas major accidents involving gas, dispersion phenomena, explosions and fires.

FLACS is focused on the modeling and simulation of atmospheric dispersion and gas explosions, while KFX is used for fire scenarios, mitigation, torch design and also atmospheric dispersion.

The VIE will be in contact with the developers of the two codes to expose their results, specifically in user meetings taking place twice a year for each code, and steering committees of related joint industry projects. Their results will orientate the development of both FLACS and KFX and improve internai documentation. These codes can also be compared with simple models (PHAST) or new specialized CFD software (e.g. EXSIM, FLACS-Fire).

The second objective of the VIE will be the development of best practices for the modeling of underwater gas leaks. These good practices will be based on comparative tests of different modeling tools in this area (integral models, CFD) and the evaluation of results versus documented experimental cases.

The selected candidate will receive a VIE allowance according to the Business France rates and the subsidiary will provide either a furnished accommodation or will grant an accommodation allowance.

Candidate profile
Desired qualifications : Graduated Engineer

Languages :
English Advancced proficiency
French Mothertongue or Bilingue

Technical skills :
Good knowledge (both physical and chemical) of gas dispersion, fires and explosions
Having handled CFD codes. FLACS and KFX in particular would be very appreciable

Computing skills
Excel, advanced level + VBA
Linux (including basic programming)

Personal skills
Rigorous, analysis and synthesis skills, curiosity, adaptability, team work, good communication.
