The Royal Thai Government has recognized the International Labor Organization (ILO) for its contributions to occupational safety and health (OSH). Thailand’s Labour Ministry presented the ILO with a Certificate of Honour during a ceremony commemorating Occupational Safety Officer Day 2024 on November 12, 2024, in Bangkok.
The ILO and 22 other organizations were recognized for their support of the nation’s “Safety Thailand” policy with the award, which was given by Lt. Saroj Komkay, Director General of the Department of Labor Protection and Welfare.
Oktavianto Pasaribu, Deputy Director and the ILO representative said: “The ILO is honoured to receive this Certificate, which recognizes our work and contribution toward Thailand’s efforts to improve safe working conditions for workers.”
More than 1,000 occupational safety officers, representatives of employers’ and workers’ organizations, and occupational safety associations from all around Thailand participated in the event, which was held both online and in person at the Ministry of Labor.
Thailand has mandated since 1985 that companies hire “Occupational Safety Officers,” also referred to as Safety Officers, who are tasked with overseeing safety. Twenty-eight exceptional Occupational Safety Officers received ornamental pins during the occasion.
Thailand has ratified the ILO’s Promotional Framework for Occupational Safety and Health Convention, 2006 (No. 187). The ILO continues to promote workers’ safety and health through its ongoing project, “Promoting a safe and healthy working environment in Thailand and Cambodia”, funded by the Government of Japan. This initiative emphasizes the importance of a safe and healthy working environment as a fundamental principle and right at work, particularly addressing emerging risks including mental health at work, in Thailand and Cambodia.
