Job Description

The HSSE Team lead is a key member of the Well Delivery team. Manages and co-ordinates all Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) activities within the operational sphere of Shell Bolivia leading multiple workstreams of exploration wells, rig demobilisations and rig start ups in extreme remotes locations, and multiple well abandonments.

Regular interfaces with the rig contractors and service companies are key to deliver safe drilled well, efficient and best in class.

The HSSE Team Lead sets a clear leadership example and promotes a high degree of HSSE amongst all stakeholders.
He / She is responsible for:

Ensure Shell Bolivia’s HSE expectations are consistently communicated to all stakeholders internally and externally.

Sets out company HSSE expectations and supports teams to achieve Goal Zero during the planning and execution phase of the civils and drilling activities.

Create and manage all of the following but not limited to: bridging documents with key contractors, prepare and test Emergency Response plan, prepare and follow up on operational risk assessments, HAZID, DROPS, Line of Fire, Logistics and infrastructure plans.

Provide onsite leadership by advising site supervisors and leadership in the day to day safety matters including dissemination and implementation of the safety policies, rules and procedures within the scope of field operations.

Manage HSE Improvement plans and Ensure all HSE activities required by the LOB Wells Business Improvement Plan are implemented on site.

Coordinate and deliver a series of contractor audits, pre and post award as per Joint Improvement plans.

Assist in identifying areas for improvement and develop initiatives to bridge the gaps.

Ensure updates to Wells governance documents are made in a timely manner
Coordinate monthly contractor’s HSSE meetings.

Ensure timely reporting of all incidents within Wells, Exploration and IGV.

Ensure thorough investigations are carried out to ensure root causes are established and recommendations are made.

Participate and present at site HSSE meetings to facilitate sharing of best practices and learnings.

Maintain an active learning and improvement loop based on active wells after action reviews.

Co-ordinate consistent HSE reporting, both within Shell Bolivia OU and through the Wells LoB.


This position requires a broad knowledge of all aspects of the E & P business. A professional with at least 10-15 years’ experience with proven track record of results delivery in HSE Wells sites with HSE supervisory exposure.

In addition the following Skills and Qualifications are required:

d. HSSE risk management application support (Apply): Skill
e. HSSE cross discipline integration: Knowledge
f. Contractor HSSE: Knowledge

Visibly demonstrate personal and company HSE commitment and drive towards technical excellence.

Extensive experience of managing drilling operations HSE performance and mountainous civils work in remote areas.

Exposure to drilling operations and process safety principles.

Dealing with Good people skills as the job requires engagement and influencing of multinational contractor workforce.

Experience of leading incident investigations. Auditor; acted as lead auditor for either internal or external audits.

Technical proficiency gained through practical experience and ‘coaching’ from internal or external experts.

Contractor Management (Drilling Rig and Well Engineering contracts).

Experience in delivery in safety projects/operations with different risk profiles, cultures and with varying strengths of workforce would be an advantage
Supervisory or managerial experience an advantage.

Broad experience of oil and gas industry
Sound knowledge of safety management tools and techniques.

Sound experience in HSSE risk and asset integrity management.

Experience in using safety databases and root case analysis would be an advantage.
Speaking Spanish would be an advantage.
