Job Description and Responsibilities

Oil States Energy Services (Canada) Inc. specializes in custom designed wellhead isolation equipment for high pressure stimulation services on oil or gas wells. Our Red Deer location is currently seeking an HSE Advisor to support the Health, Safety, and Environment Department.
POSITION SUMMARY: Assist HSE and District managers with coaching and training of current and new employees. Actively participate in the presentation of company and industry training requirements and reinforce company, industry, provincial and federally regulated safety policies, procedures, rules, regulations and responsibilities.

Essential duties and responsibilities:
• Promote a positive safety culture within the work environment
• Provide front line support to multiple locations
• Effectively plan schedules and account for time/resources through weekly reporting process
• Coordinate with HSE and District Managers on New Hire Training and present required orientations
• Participate in training for Hours of Service, Fatigue Management and Cargo Securement for commercial drivers; log book auditing and recommendations. –
• Document, report and perform data entry related to training/evaluation progress
• Coach employees to ensure proper safety and operating procedures are followed
• Conduct field, facility and COR audits and inspections to monitor and reinforce compliance with internal and external standards including but not limited to Provincial OH&S, National Safety Code, PIC, Federal DOT, IFTA and Federal Oil Well Service Vehicle Exemption Permit
• Present updated information to HSE Manager to ensure consistent safety knowledge
• Train employees on Proper Care, Use and Maintenance of PPE, assist with development of hazard assessments and JSA’s, assist with employee training on Hazard Identification and Recognition, reinforce driving compliance requirements and promote and reinforce safety in all operations
• Perform and administer a portfolio of safety training and refresher training to employees as required
• Communicate safety concerns, inspection and training results to HSE Manager in written and verbal formats
• Participate in incident investigations and assist with identifying corrective actions required
• Participate in periodic skills upgrading and training
• Participate in ECHO (Employee Observation) Program
• Regularly attend district safety meetings
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor


• A minimum of 3-5 years field experience with health and safety, preferably in the Oil and Gas industry.
• Must have an intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Power Point and Word
• Must be able to read, write and speak in English
• Must be able to train others through presentations in a classroom environment
• Effective communication skills
• Must have superior literacy (English) and math skills
• Must be able to complete required documentation completely and precisely
• Must have knowledge of common industry training and best practices for the oil and gas industry
• Experience with and participation in Accident/Incident Investigations
• Knowledge of Behavior Based Safety Programs
• Knowledge of Federal DOT Commercial Driving Requirements
• Log Book Auditing experience
• Experience with ISN and Comply Works monitoring, data entry, notifications and updates
• Experience with WCB Online Reporting

Qualifications and Requirements
• Have or working toward OHS (Occupational Health and Safety Certification) or NCSO (National Construction Safety Officer) designation
• Must have and maintain a safe driving record as prescribed by company policy & insurance requirements
• The ability to complete field training, company and COR audits.
• Facilitator certification/skills training appropriate to position

Physical Requirements:
• Extensive travel up to 50% of the time with overnight stays
• Must be able to travel for extended periods of time and be on call 24/7 on regularly scheduled days
• Working in cold, hot and rainy weather conditions may be required
• Exposure to loud noise, vibrations and bright lights
• Required to lift up to 25 lbs. or more
• Bending, lifting, climbing, sitting and standing for long periods of time

Certification and/or Licences:
• Clean Class 5 License
• Current Standard First Aid with BC Endorsement
• Current H2S Alive (Enform)
• e-GSO
• Enform Internal Maintenance Auditor (preferred)
• Hours of Service Auditing (preferred)
