Overview of Role:
As Head of Health, Safety and Environment for the Teledyne-e2v Chelmsford Site, you’ll be responsible for shaping the future strategy of HSE by developing the Site wide roadmap and overseeing the implementation of appropriate policies, procedures and cultural change. You will be advising the Site Leadership Team on ensuring Legal compliance and acting as the site subject matter expert.
You’ll provide direction across the Health, Safety & Environment function and champion the Safety Health Environmental Leadership Team (SHELT) programme that promotes a positive health and safety culture, liaising with employees and stakeholders across the business.
In your lead role within Teledyne-e2v HSE you’ll be responsible for interpreting any changes to national HSE regulations, recommending changes in policy and procedures where necessary to ensure compliant and standardised practice is adopted across the business.
Advise the Site Director and Senior Leadership team on all OHSE matters including legislative changes, so that effective policies and procedures can be introduced.
Support the Chelmsford Site in ensuring the OHSE Management System requirements are met and implemented, and that the business Cultural Program is established across Digital Imaging – Chelmsford.
Enhance and maintain the site HSE management system and associated external accreditations including but not limited to ISO 14001:2015.
Ensure all site permits and authorisations are up to date and adhered to.
Continually improve and support the development and mentoring of direct reports and employees.
Design and delivery of training / briefing sessions / staff focus groups.
To lead and coach the HSE team in providing the support to departmental managers as follows:
o to investigate all lost time / potential lost time accidents and ensure all appropriate remedial action is taken in a proactive timescale.
o Maintain the Corrective and Preventative Action and Accountability Process to ensure injuries, near misses and unsafe conditions are managed to reduce negative OHSE Outcomes
o Review your Divisional Accident Reports and Dangerous Occurrences and, where appropriate, assist line management to implement measures to minimise the risk of repeat occurrences.
o Co-ordinate regular OHSE Inspections and audits in line with the business KPI’s, and drive/support management in rectifying any problems or shortcomings to achieve compliance scores for the period.
o Work with the Occupational Health Advisor to assist in the identification and implementation of effective ill-health prevention programs in appropriate areas.
o Maintain and monitor HSE reporting and statistics as required by the site leadership team and Corporate.
o To ensure sufficient and effective OHSE training of all divisional employees and deliver a training program as and when required.
o Ensure that department managers understand and implement the OHSE Management Systems and drive accountabilities, such as Risk Assessment, Corrective and Preventative Action Process.
Drive the effective implementation of approved policies/procedures/actions across the Chelmsford site to ensure accreditation of the relevant company approvals.
Support management in the effective communication of OHSE to all employees.
Organise and facilitate the Site OHSE Steering Group meetings.
Work with the senior leadership team to drive OHSE Accountability across the business
To lead by example and demonstrate a positive attitude towards the business cultural programme
HSE Diploma or equivalent
Strong leadership skills and a track record of implementing behavioural HSE culture change and a background of managing the HSE on a complex site environment, ideally within manufacturing.
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships at all levels of the business including directors and leadership teams to drive engagement of the HSE agenda
A competent understanding of current HSE legislation with relevant industry qualifications. You’ll have prior experience of working at a senior level within a Health and Safety leadership role.
Extensive experience of working in a Health and Safety lead (or similar) role.
Capable of obtaining SC – Security Clearance
Leading the achievement of the ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001 certifications
(Desirable) Qualified and experienced auditor for ISO 14001 & OHSAS 18001
