Job Description

We currently have an exciting opportunity for a permanent full-time HSE Advisor to join the Group Health & Safety, Environmental Department based at the offices of Henry Boot Construction Limited, Callywhite Lane, Dronfield, S18 2XN.
Reporting to the Group Health, Safety & Environmental Manager, the successful candidate will provide timely and accurate support to all Group companies in relation to all health, safety, environmental and wellbeing activities; ensuring adherence to legislation and internal policies/procedures.
Main Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
– Ensuring, so far as is reasonably practicable, all Group employees and visitors are aware of their specific and collective duties under the HSWA, together with its associated Regulations, approved Codes of Practice and internal Policies and Procedures; and demonstrate a good aptitude to business risk profiling
– Keeping abreast of health and safety legislation, codes of practice and new health and safety, Environmental literature;
– Have been exposed to asset management in terms of hard facilities management of buildings and Land
– Offering guidance and support to management, Clients/Contractors/Consultants and colleagues on health and safety, environmental relates issues;
– Previous exposure to construction/refurbishment/Land and civil engineering project delivery, acting both on Principal Contractor and Clients perspectives
– In conjunction with the Group HSE Manager advising on the implementation and monitoring, review of HSE processes and management systems, in addition to developing new risk management systems/ processes
– In conjunction with the Group HSE Manager regular inspections of the workplace to ensure standards are being achieved, safe systems of work are being adhered to and making recommendations for improvement;
– Assisting with the investigation (as appropriate) of accidents, incidents and near misses and recommend means of preventing a recurrence;
– Assisting with the maintenance and delivery of Disaster Recovery Plans/business continuity any other duties deemed appropriate by the Group HSE Manager.
Competencies & Qualifications
– NEBOSH Diploma or Equivalent (Preferred/working towards) in addition to membership of IOSH/ APS (Derisible)
– Comprehensive  of UK and EU Legislative Framework(Essential);
– Experience of liaising with  third parties i.e. Consultants, HSE, EA, LA etc(Essential);
– Must have good understanding of construction/refurb/development methods and technical aspects relating to industry
– Comprehensive Knowledge of Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (Essential); acting for Client and Principal ContractorRelevant CSCS Card (Essential);
– Shows initiative and capable of working without supervision; prepared to take responsibility for tasks, as the role will involve extensive travel within the UK, and occasional overnights stays(Essential);
– Excellent communication skills as the role will involve liaising closely with both internal and external contacts at all levels: (Essential);
– Proactive approach and prompt responses to HSE technical issues(Essential);
– Strong computer skills including Microsoft Word and Excel (Essential);
– Must have had previous exposure to writing HSE reports and presenting these reports to Directors and Senior Managers, accurately
– High level of accuracy and attention to detail (Essential);
– Excellent organisation and time management skills with the ability to handle a number of tasks at once, meeting deadlines as required (Essential).
