    Wood Environmental & Infrastructure Solutions is seeking a Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental (HSSE) Manager to implement, monitor, and evolve the safety program at our main Durham corporate office as well as several satellite offices: EPA main campus in Durham, NC; corporate office in Wilmington, NC; corporate office in Richmond, VA; and a satellite office in Norfolk, VA. The HSSE Manager reports to the Durham Office Manager and the IFM Branch Manager.


    Key Responsibilities 

    At a minimum, the HSSE Manager is responsible for:

    • Review work plans and safety SOPs to ensure they remain up-to-date
    • Develop, conduct, and track/record daily and monthly required safety briefings
    • Review project-specific Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs) developed by office project managers. For the EPA-RTP facility, develop task-specific AHAs and work methods for hazardous work
    • Ensure workers have proper levels of safety training and coordinate overall task-specific safety training where required
    • Ensure proper personal protective equipment is available and used by staff and work crews
    • For the EPA-RTP facility, review all subcontractor’s AHAs prior to procurement of services to ensure subcontracted work methods address identified and potential hazards and comply with Wood safety SOPs
    • Conduct regulatory and customer required safety training
    • Obtaining Qualified/Competent Person status for scaffolding, fall protection, confined space, fork lift training, etc.
    • Interface with managers, supervisors, team leads, and team members on safety aspects of work efforts to promote open communication
    • Collect and document OSHA required information for state and corporate reporting
    • Conduct, document, and report all required monthly and annual safety audits

    Skills / Qualifications

    Basic Qualifications

    The HSSE Manager shall be at least a high school graduate or equivalent (college degree preferred) and have:

    • Experience in managing the health & safety program at a corporate level in regards to engineering and facility maintenance work
    • Strong technical knowledge and background in regulatory standards and safety engineering
    • Experience in performing multi-task projects with tight completion deadlines
    • Good working skills using MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
    • Demeanor that promotes safety consciousness, open-mindedness with positive approach to problem solving
    • Experience in developing and presenting safety training packages
    • Experience in managing the training requirements for facility O&M workers
    • Experience in assessing work hazards and developing safe work procedures
    • Experience in briefing work crews and building occupants in the safety aspects of maintenance/construction work
    • Training in OSHA safety and/or industrial hygiene programs related to facility O&M, construction, and environmental/infrastructure field work
    • Must be a US Citizen and pass a U.S. government background investigation and pre-employment drug screen

    Preferred Qualifications

    • OSHA 500 10 and 30 Hour Construction Authorized Trainer
    • CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
    • CMESH (Construction Manager of Environmental Safety and Health)
    • CPR, First Aid, AED, and Blood Borne Pathogens Trainer
