Role Overview and Responsibilities

This is a site leadership role with responsibility for developing Health, Safety and Environmental standards, and ensuring that they are embedded within the organisation. You will be responsible for setting the strategic framework for the management of these standards and for defining and delivering against objectives that enable both the achievement of these standards and continuous improvement.

You will be a provider of information, giving technical guidance on all Health, Safety and Environmental matters, identifying and advising on current and future requirements and ensuring that systems, policies and processes are in place to support the continuing development of a positive HSE culture across the site.

You will be responsible for directing and providing health and safety program oversight across the Bedlington Site. The position oversees development, implementation and management of behaviour based safety practices, internal audit functions for health and safety procedure implementation, management of the external OHSAS and ISO certification program as well as ensuring compliance with corporate, OSHA, Health & Safety Executive, Local Authorities, client safety requirements, and conducting root-cause analysis of health and safety incidents. You will monitor and document the effectiveness of safety control measures used throughout the site and direct and coach the site Management team in the implementation of the Corporate Health and Safety Programs. The position will manage the development of site specific health and safety plans including the site HSE training plan.

You will have the ability to work at all levels across the organisation and have demonstrable experience in a similar role.

Qualifications, Skills and Attributes

Knowledge and Experience:

Strong leadership experience in a HSE management role.

Comprehensive knowledge of HSE legislation, guidance and best practice.

NEBOSH diploma or equivalent.

3 – 5 years in a HSE management role, with an industrial background.

Key Skills:

Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to influence colleagues at all levels to drive change.

Excellent communication skills with the ability to effectively manage relationships with people inside and outside of the organisation.

Strong role model with the ability to influence a positive HSE culture across all levels of the organisation.

Effective team working and relationship building skills.
