HAZWOPER Training And Cost

HAZWOPER is an acronym for – Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response. HAZWOPER

It is a set of guidelines produced and maintained by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) which regulates hazardous waste operations and emergency services in the United States and its territories. HAZWOPER was enacted by OSHA in 1990.

Who Does HAZWOPER Applies To:

  • Employees who are exposed to hazardous substances
  • Employees who are engaged in several operations including clean-up, treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Workers involved in an emergency response operation dealing with hazardous waste.
  • Workers who have to perform duties at a waste site with hazardous contamination

HAZWOPER Training

HAZWOPER training is in two parts:

  • Initial training
  • Refresher training

Initial training 

This could be HAZWOPER 24 or 40 hours training.

 

The 24-hour course covers broad issues pertaining to the hazard recognition at work sites. This 24 Hour is required for employees visiting an Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Operation mandated by the Government.

While

The 40-hour course is specifically designed for workers who are involved in clean-up operations, voluntary clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances or uncontrolled hazardous waste sites. This 40 Hour is required for employees working on a project consisting of Uncontrolled Hazardous Waste Operation mandated by the Government.

Refresher training

The 8-hour Refresher Course meets the requirements outlined in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for 8 (eight) hours of annual refresher training for workers at hazardous waste sites. This course is designed for general site workers who remove hazardous waste or who are exposed or potentially exposed to hazardous substances or health hazards.

It is designed for employees who had already acquired the initial training. It is conducted once every 12 months to maintain the workers original certification qualifications (either 24 hour or 40 hour).

NOTE: This trainings are available in both class taught and e-Learning.
