Overview / Responsibilities

The Group HSE Lead is responsible for the provision of timely advice and guidance on all matters pertaining to Health, Safety and Environment with respect to Legislation, Company Policy and Management System and Client requirements, thereby reducing risks to the business.


May also have a direct responsibility for HSE Advisors and Coordinators within the Business Unit or Contract/Project.


  • Providing strategic support to the Group HSE Managers on all HSE-related matters
  • Provide support to Occupational Health, Environment, Sustainability and Training & Development functions
  • Provide pro-active advice and support to the business on implementation of the Core HSE standards and self-assessment tool
  • Promote an enthusiastic HSSEA culture that delivers positive commitment to and engages the business to continually improve HSSEA performance
  • Oversee and support Group HSE Advisors and provide positive leadership and encouragement
  • Monitor and ensure effectiveness of learnings from incidents across the business
  • Support consolidation of WG/AMF MS onto Wood Management System
  • Review CAIRS entries, identify trends and communicate pro-active initiatives with Operations HSSEA VP’s
  • Rolling-out of Group HSE annual objectives and initiatives
  • Providing support to Business Unit/Contract/Project Managers and HSE Advisors in the development and roll-out of Corporate HSEQ objectives and other initiatives
  • Providing support to senior Managers in incident and accident investigations through the use of an appropriate Investigation process
  • Monitoring ‘best-practice’ and developing ‘leading-edge’ HSE initiatives as appropriate to the business
  • Providing support to senior Managers and HSE Advisors in the timely reporting of both leading and lagging HSE Indicators
  • Providing mentorship and training for graduate/new recruits into the HSEQ team as appropriate
  • Developing HSEQ presentational material to support Group initiatives

Skills / Qualifications


  • ONC/HNC or equivalent in Technical, HSE or related industry
  • Degree in relevant technical, industry or HSEQ specific discipline
  • NEBOSH Certificate/Diploma (essential)
  • NVQ Level 4 IOSH (desirable)
  • Trained and competent Internal Auditor (essential)
  • Trained and competent External Auditor (desirable)
  • RCA – Accident/incident Investigator, e.g. Helix/Taproot (essential)


Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • 5+ years in a technical role, or association with HSE role in another industry.
  • Lead/Senior HSE advisor experience with project/contract experience in O&G or other industry
  • Excellent working knowledge with O&G offshore and other relevant legislation and regulations
  • Broad HSE experience in similar/other industry
  • Good planning and organisational skills
  • Effective/competent MS Office Suite User
  • High level of communication skills in both written and spoken format
