Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently seeking an Entry-Level Civil/Geotechnical Engineer. The successful candidate will provide civil and geotechnical engineering support to our project managers responsible for delivering mining engineering projects to our clients. AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency is a key requirement for this opportunity.

Key Responsibilities

The ideal candidate will have a solid educational background in engineering fundamentals with an emphasis on geotechnical engineering and AutoCAD Civil 3D modeling, as well as excellent interpersonal skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills and will be a proactive problem solver. This position offers the opportunity to work with, learn from, and be mentored by senior engineering staff while executing the following roles/responsibilities:

  • Perform geotechnical field investigations and construction oversight at mining sites
  • Provide technical drafting and design engineering modeling in AutoCAD Civil 3D and support for mining infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, dams, heap leach pads, ponds and impoundments, waste dumps, piping, roads, drainage, and other mine infrastructure
  • Perform basic support and design engineering computations, including quantity calculations, foundation design, slope stability, etc. under the guidance of a senior engineer
  • Design or redesign complex layouts and drawings from general written or verbal specifications from the project team
  • Prepare civil / geotechnical design reports under the guidance of a senior engineer
  • Will travel to domestic (US) and international project sites – Approximately 25-40% overnight travel
  • Well-rounded opportunity to also support transportation design and field work

Skills / Qualifications

  • B.S. in Civil Engineering and (preferably) Geotechnical or Geological Engineering, or related engineering degree
  • 0 – 3 years + relevant engineering experience
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D is a key requirement including grading, 3D modeling, volume estimation, etc.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus
  • Slope stability software experience is a plus but not required
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Strong academic background and solid understanding of soil mechanics and engineering principles
  • Self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to follow instructions, organize and prioritize work to meet scheduled deadlines
  • Superior time management, planning and ability to interact with clients
  • Work well in a team environment
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project sites in and outside the US – Approximately 25-40% overnight travel
  • Physical requirements may require lifting up to 40 pounds and traversing over rugged terrain
  • Must pass drug test, background check, and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company’s driving (MVR) policy
