An employee shattered his leg while working on a property’s roof, and the firm was fined £120,000.
The man broke his femur after falling 13.1 feet (four meters) to the ground while he was changing solar panels on a house on Sherfield English Road in Salisbury, Wiltshire.
According to a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) inquiry, EE Renewables Limited did not adequately plan the work or take the necessary precautions to avoid the incident on December 16, 2022.
The Fareham, Hampshire-based solar energy company acknowledged its mistake and was fined by the Swindon Magistrates’ Court on December 23.
It was also told to pay £4,716 in costs.
‘Inadequate protection’
The property owner had requested the work to move nine solar panels higher up the roof.
HSE inspector Sam Applebee said: “EE Renewables Limited did not properly plan this work so it could be carried out safely.
“There were inadequate means of protecting the workers from falling off the roof, with the company failing to provide edge protection.
“Working at height remains one of the biggest causes of injuries and fatalities in Britain so companies must ensure they implement the correct control measures and safe working practices.”
