LOCATION: Fort McMurray, Alberta (CA-AB)

Job Overview

Reporting to the manager process safety and operations excellence, you will be responsible for the implementation, improvements, and oversight of several Process Safety.

Management (PSM) and Operational Excellence Management System (OEMS) elements across Suncor’s Oil Sands facility.

The individual will drive process improvements to key OEMS elements such as risk management, Management of Change (MOC), Technical Operating Envelop (TOE), and Process Safety Information (PSI) with focus on Process Hazard Analysis (PHA).

Key Accountabilities

Work with various teams to drive maturity of PSM to achieve a continuous reduction in unplanned events and incidents across Oil Sands.

Provide advice and guidance on PSM/OEMS elements and act as a subject matter expert.

Lead and facilitate PHA/HAZOP evaluations of existing processes and new processes including tracking and following up on PHA action items. Knowledge and competency with the PHA/HAZOP processes is required.

Prepare and update key reports (e.g. PHAs, Risk Registers) using Suncor recognized software and tools.

Ensure compliance with PSM and OEMS technical standards including updating governance documents (procedures, business process manual, etc.) pertaining to PSM and OEMS.

Monitor and develop key performance indicators to track PSM progress.

Participate in OEMS self-assessments (gap analysis) and audits to implement and recommend gap closure plans and strategies for OEMS elements.

Lead and participate in process safety technical networks.

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in engineering, operations, and/or maintenance with applied experience in PSM.

Knowledgeable about design and application of Independent Protection layers (IPL)
Familiar with Safety Instrumented Functions, SIF, and associated Safety Instrumented System (SIS), Cause and Effect Charts, Control System Narrative and Safety Integrity Level (SIL)

Demonstrated people management and team building skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks /projects simultaneously.

Bachelor’s degree in engineering with preference given to chemical engineering.

Certified PHA facilitator would be considered a strong asset.

Skills and Knowledge:

Ability to plan, delegate, and organize tasks to consistently produce results, with minimal supervision.

Positive and motivated self-starter with a successful track record in a changing environment; excellent organizational, teamwork and prioritization skills.

Ability to communicate with clarity, impact and passion to help drive a growing PSM program, and to collaborate across all levels of the organization to enable and drive change.

Demonstrates commitment to safety first; communicates safety concerns; promotes a safe work environment based on established safety standards and training.

Communicates, interacts, and works effectively with others; receptive to feedback and coaching; voices concerns in a constructive manner.

Acts in a manner reflective of the company culture, trust in team, and continuous improvement mindset.

Working Conditions

If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
