We are currently looking for a visionary leader to lead our organization in creating, fostering and maintaining an interdependent safety culture which actively involves all employees in the continuous improvement of health, safety and environmental performance. This highly visible position reports to the Senior Vice President, Corporate Services and will be supported by a team of Senior Managers with their respective staff.
As the Director, Health, Safety & Environment, you will be accountable for:
Setting the direction of the Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) team and ensuring the alignment to programs and activities across EPCOR.
Business planning, management and review of HSE’s vision, mission and values, strategic positioning, resource planning.
Understanding the current HSE climate, and proactively consulting with the business areas throughout the company to inspire engagement, priorities and develop and implement a long-term framework with the right balance of direction and flexibility.
Reporting updates and progress to EPCOR’s Executive Leadership and the Board of Directors EH&S Committee on a quarterly basis.
Passionately leading, developing, and stretching your senior management team as well as leading indirect reports, peers and other members of the organization by example.
Maintaining knowledge on current environment, health and safety management practices, trends, and technologies by continuing to build and maintain industry working relationships, and participating in exchange groups, associations, and committees.
Managing and ensuring the mitigation of safety and environmental risks by managing the development, implementation and review of appropriate layers of protection.
Providing education, communication, and implementation of programs to assist in the understanding and application of health & safety requirements across the company.
Ensuring Integrated Management System standards and processes are successfully developed, implemented, and resourced.
Given the leading role this individual will be expected to play in achieving the strategic objectives of the company, this individual must possess the following:
A relevant post-secondary degree along with a relevant accreditation (e.g. CRSP, CSP)
At minimum of 15 years of Health, Safety, and Environment experience in corporate head office, field operations, and construction projects across interprovincial boundaries.
A minimum of 5 years in a leadership position, inclusive of experience with strategic planning and budgeting.
A leader, with the ability to hire, retain, develop, coach and manage people to achieve outstanding results.
Extensive knowledge of health, safety and environment industry practices, monitoring/control, and relevant legislation in North America.
A demonstrated ability to implement safety and environmental strategies in a large company with diverse portfolios.
Strong understanding of implementing safety and environmental programs and their relation to operations efficiency and the overall business success.
Extensive knowledge of developing and implementing Health, Safety and Environmental Programs / management systems.
Experience in developing and implementing strategies to influence government policy development, through various industry and multi-stakeholder organizations.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to influence and to deliver concise and clear reports to leadership, the board and all employees.

Some EPCOR positions require an enhanced level of background assessment, which is dictated by law. These positions require advanced criminal record checks that must also be conducted from time to time after commencement of employment.
A technical/practical assessment may be administered during the selection process and this exercise will be used as a part of the selection criterion.
To meet the physical demands required of some positions, candidates must be in good physical condition and willing to work in all weather conditions. Clearance on pre-placement medical and drug and alcohol testing may be required.
