Responsibilities

We are excited to be adding a Director of EH&S (Environment, Health & Safety) to our growing team in China..!  This position works with Guardian business and operations leaders in the Asia Pacific region (China and Thailand) to establish short and long-range EH&S goals and objectives, prioritizing the reduction of highest consequence risks. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Develops a point of view on culture and business-wide program health and performance, and drives overall improvement.
  • Understands the business EH&S talent position, and critical resources.
  • Coaches and mentors business and operations leaders and plant EH&S managers and coordinators on compliance and risk management systems.
  • Benchmarks best practices and develops programs and tools to assist in improving EH&S performance.
  • Facilities in EH&S knowledge sharing across the region and globally.
  • Provides technical guidance to operations on specific EHS laws, regulations and standards; inquiries relating to global practices, compliance issues and customer concerns, questions, or challenges; Supports and develops tools to more effectively and efficiently comply with EHS requirements.
  • Monitors regional EH&S regulatory activity and customer requirements in order understand the impact to our operations; Communicates and leads development of compliance plans for emerging regulatory changes to ensure alignment of current and future operations and resources.
  • Advises Guardian leadership on EH&S risks related to the design and construction of new facilities.
  • Participates in due diligence activities such as business purchases and property acquisitions as needed; Supports integration of new businesses.
  • Supports the global EH&S oversight framework by assisting operations in effective root cause analysis to ensure long term closure of identified risks; Participates in oversight meetings and audit events as needed in order to provide technical guidance and understand organizational risks.
  • Actively participates in major incident reviews, including assessment of root causes and corrective actions; Communicates and facilitates information sharing to assist in preventing reoccurrence.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree with an engineering, science or chemical focus; Master’s degree a plus.
  • Approximately 10 years of experience in an EH&S with increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Fluent in Mandarin and English.
  • Demonstrated experience interacting successfully with government agencies and other third parties.
  • Strong strategic planning, prioritization and risk identification skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead change in processes and culture.
