Bodybuilding: From Anabolic steroids to Synthol; their safety implication

Bodybuilding is the use of progressive resistance exercise to control and develop one’s musculature.

Bodybuilding recently has gain more popularity, making it a wish of individuals to develop good biceps, six packs and generally nice body shape. Unfortunately, most individuals involved in bodybuilding do not have the patience to grow their muscles in a natural way. Others have encountered a lot of impossibility in growing their musculature to their preferred size. This is why some venture into the use of Anabolic androgenic steroids. Most recently, there have been a migration from the use of anabolic androgenic steroids to the use of SYNTHOL.

Anabolic-androgenic steroids are the familiar name for synthetic substances related to the male sex hormones (e.g. testosterone). They promote the growth of skeletal muscle (anabolic effects) and the development of male sexual characteristics (androgenic effects) in both males and females.

Some of the steroids use by bodybuilders are 1-4 compounds including; Oxandrolone (Anavar), Methenolone acetate (Primobolan), Oxandrolone (Anavar), Oxymetholone (Anadrol), Methandrostenolone (Dianabol), Nandrolone decanoate (Deca-Durabolin), Testosterone cypionate, and Gonadotropin chorionic (HCG) in various dosages and stacks.

These anabolic steroids are not without side effect; their side effects include:

  • Alteration of mood behavior
  • Paranoid (extreme, unreasonable) jealousy
  • Extreme irritability
  • Delusions – False beliefs or ideas
  • Impaired judgment
  • Shrinking testicles

This is what Wikipedia has to say about Synthol:

Synthol also called site enhancement oil refers to oils injected into muscles to increase the size or change the shape. Some bodybuilders inject their muscles with such mixtures to mimic the appearance of developed muscle where it may otherwise be disproportionate or lagging. This is known as “fluffing”. Synthol is 85% oil, 7.5% lidocaine, and 7.5% alcohol. It is not restricted, and many brands are available on the Internet”.

Synthol just like anabolic steroid are not without side effects. Some of its side effects includes:

  • Pulmonary embolisms
  • Nerve damage
  • Infections
  • Sclerosing lipogranuloma
  • Stroke
  • Formation of oil-filled granulomas,
  • Cysts
  • Ulcers in the muscle.

As reported recently, 21-year-old Kirill Tereshin of Pyatigorsk, Russia, may have both of his arms amputated because he injected a Synthol directly into his biceps.

However, considering the negative effects involved in the use of these substances for bodybuilding we should ask ourselves this question.

Do my bodybuilding exercise really worth the risk of using these bodybuilding substances?

Bodybuilding is good, it keeps you fit, gives you a nice body but do not get to the extreme just to develop a good body.

From what you have read thus far, you have noticed that both anabolic androgenic steroids and Synthol have serious side effects.

If you ask for my advice; I will say:

Undergo bodybuilding in the natural way, allow your muscle to grow naturally to its capacity. Do not try push it beyond its capacity by using either anabolic androgenic steroids or Synthol.

Avoid these substances, thereby avoiding their consequences except you want your arm to be amputated as what Kirill Tereshin is likely to face.

Act safe and stay safe.
