OSHA launched an inquiry into Amazon’s safety procedures throughout our operations network in 2022. OSHA concluded its inquiry today by agreeing to revoke all but one of the ergonomic citations it had issued to us. The agreement was reached only months after a Washington state judge rejected comparable allegations against Amazon made by the state’s safety watchdog.
We provided OSHA with years of data, thousands of papers, and comprehensive records of our programs, processes, and procedures to reach today’s settlement. These demonstrate that we have been making significant strides toward becoming the safest employers in our respective sectors, as previously highlighted. Since 2019, the number of job-related injuries in the United States that require more than basic first aid has decreased by 28%, and the number of injuries that require time away from work to recover has decreased by 75%. Additionally, musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs), also referred to as ergonomic injuries, are the primary cause of work-related injuries in all industries and can include sprains and strains – our rate of recordable incidents has improved by 27% since 2019. We’re committed to continuing that improvement.
