AfriSafe 2020: Organizers Name Top HSE Professionals Across Countries As Award Panel
The Africa Safety Award for Excellence (AfriSAFE) has announced a six member judges’ committee who will assess over 1200 entries across 12 categories from 4 African regions for its 2020 award programme.
The judges’ committee comprised of six professionals from UK, Ireland, Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya and Cape Verde Islands.
In a statement by the Chief Coordinator, AfriSAFE, Femi Da-silva, he said; “AfriSAFE 2020 promises to be bigger than ever before as we have received over 1200 entries across 11 categories from 4 African regions.
“We are inspired by the passion and zeal to reward excellence and creativity especially in times like this. This is evident from the overwhelming number of nominations we have received. Accordingly, we have also appointed judges who are professionals across various fields of health and safety with years of quality experience to preside over the judging criteria to ensure fairness and justice in choosing the 2020 nominees and winners.”
He added that the award event which will be held virtually on October 11 will bring together captain of industries, industrial giants and safety professionals from across African on one platform to celebrate its heroes.
AfriSAFE which is a leading global brand for the recognition and celebration of excellence in Health, Safety and Wellbeing on the continent of Africa will celebrate several innovative ideas and effort of organizations and individual in keeping our workplace and community safe. The award event will feature a host of entertaining, enlightening and inspiring presentations focused on creating a safer workplace.

The full panel of judges for the 2020 AfriSAFE Award are:
John Flynn: is an internationally experienced and qualified Consultant, Lead Auditor and Trainer in a range of International Standards. He covers Quality, Health & Safety, Environment, Information Security and Business Continuity and has applied these over many diverse business sectors and across 26 different countries. He is an acknowledged expert in the interpretation and implementation of Standards and Protocols.
Jessy Gomes: a French national and Cape Verde Islands origins is a Master’s Degree holder in Health, Safety and Quality Management with more than 15 years of experience within QHSE and a career in safety management at three blue-chip companies in Europe. She is a researcher and Chartered Health and Safety Practitioners (CMIOSH), Certified member of the Association for project Safety (CmAPS).
Jerry Mutegi: a Master’s Degree holder in Occupational Safety and Health Management is currently the Safety Manager at a leading manufacturing company in Eastern Africa. With a safety career spanning almost 2 decades, Jerry has established Safety Management systems in several manufacturing operations across eastern Africa involving glass manufacture, beer and spirits manufacture and malting.
Nofisat Abiola Arogundade with MBA in Operations Management is a passionate safety professional with almost four decade of experience in safety administration, regulations, enforcement and advocacy. She retired as a Director of Occupational Safety and Health in 2016 from the Federal Ministry of Labour and Employment, Nigeria.
Raji Abdallah: is the lead Safety Manager for a power company in Ghana. He has over 20 years’ experience in Construction & Bridges, Oil and Gas, Mining, and Power and Energy. He is a member of several safety professional bodies in Ghana, UK and United State of America. He is an International Organization for Standardization (ISO) certified and a certified safety auditor.
Dave Foy: who has previously participated in the shortlisting and selection panels for several awards in the UK is a Chartered Member of the world’s largest member body for Safety and Health professionals IOSH (Institute of Occupational Safety and Health). He has over 20 years’ experience in Health & Safety and currently the Health & Safety Advisor for a roofing and scaffolding contractor in the UK. He is an awards ambassador for RoSPA and a listed IOSH mentor.
